Prince Albert (1819-1861) Born Francis Charles Augustus Albert Emmanuel, he married Queen Victoria of Great Britain in 1840 to become prince consort. Born in Germany, the son of Duke of Saxe-Coburg-Gotha, Albert was educated in Brussels and Bonn. He met Victoria when he was 17 and married her at age 20.
Prince Albert spent his time supporting the fine arts in Britain and studying
politics until 1847 when he was appointed as chancellor of Cambridge University. His ideas on education were adopted at Cambridge and later at Oxford.
