Okehampton Castle, Devon In the shadow of Dartmoor, this was once the seat of the Courtenay family, Earls of Devon. Laid waste by Henry VIII, who had its owner beheaded, its ruins include gatehouse, keep and the remains of the Great Hall and kitchens.
