Ditto to everything you wrote. I have some Celtic blood in my also, but it's not just happening to Welsh culture. It's happening all over the world, and it all started earlier this century with the creation of the U.N. and certain "countries" like Yugoslavia, Czeckoslovokia (sp?). As we could see, it didn't work there. My parents grew up in Southwest Louisiana in the 30's and 40's where the predominate language was French. When they went to school (public school) they were coporally punished if they spoke a word of French. Luckily, my grandparents still spoke French in their home, so my parents grew up bilingual. However, when my generation came around (along with T.V.), the French didn't stick. The only ones of my generation who still speak the language are older siblings and cousins who are 14+ years older than me.
I think the reason "globalization" does work (to some extent) in the U.S. is because of the media. Look at how the media treats Pat Buchannan. They create this image that he is some kind of hate mongering neo-Nazi.
I can rant and rave all day about this, so to sum it up: Yes, you are right. Cultures all over the world are being "watered down" into a "global village", and local histories are being destroyed. I can't quote him exactly, but an historian once said that history is the greatest lesson of them all because it's how we learn about people!
