> I would appreciate any advice on the pronuciation of a suburb of Sydney, Llandudno, and a Hunter River Newcastle town, Merthyr Tydfil. Both Suburb and town have been named after their Welsh counterpart, to my knowledge they are never afforded the dignity of correct pronunciation. > Poor old Llandudno has its three syllables pronounced identically with a flat Aussie drawl and our efforts with Merthyr Tydfil would make the lads in the valleys weep. > To keep the old language alive, some assistance would be appreciated. Thank you. Llandudo - (LL) - make tounge shape as if to pronounce L, but just brethe out, so a cracky breath comes out.
so therefore LL-an-- (dudo) -- Die - (do) as do is in 'door' as for Merthyr Tydfil i cant see any problems with that pronoucniation.
