Hullo Dave, Britania featured on Australian coins also, uptil George v I think. I remember when we used to celebrate Empire Day, someone from the girls school would be trotted out centre stage (one time on a wheelchair, so that the Union flag revolved, as they pushed Britania out!)she'd be draped in a sort of sheet and be wearing one of those big brass fire helmets that the "firies"used to wear, borrowed from the local fire station, and be holding a trident, or a pitchfork. We'd all sing "there'll always be an England", and look forward to cracker night in the evening. We were a pretty simple mob in those days.
