Living Island

The idea behind the Living Island section is charming, but carried out a little too forcefully. We walk through the tunnel of love, with reminders of sewage and unwanted environmental pollutants, to be greeted by the classic British seaside scene. The lavatories are closed due to various unwanted objects being thrown down them and damning statistics are posted up all along the promenade. Happily, as we move towards the next room, past the Punch and Judy show, things improve: we are handed tokens to play on all kinds of traditional seaside slot machines, each with an environmental message, of course. Finally, environmentalism becomes fun. For those enthusiastic enough to queue at the exit, there is an opportunity to prove your dedication to the cause by doing the traditional 'strong man with hammer' act and watching the counter rise to the level of your commitment.
