Faith

The Faith Zone was disappointing. Given the greatest theme, they had been unable to find sponsorship and lacked the sparkle and imagination of other Zones. Expecting a celebration of spirituality in all its forms, we were introduced to Jesus and his role in the Year 2000 Event, followed by a rather worthy trawl through the history of the Christian Church in Britain. The next highlight is the 'death area', where we are invited to stand on pads in a rather 'Beam Me Up Scotty' style and consider our final journey, helped along by words of wisdom from some of the major world religions. Further inside the area is a small tent, which provides space for reflection, but somehow lacks the serenity of the Rest Zone. Finally we have the opportunity to write and post thoughts for 2000 on little yellow pieces of paper, which will be stored away and opened up in fifty years. My spirits dampened by the preceding displays, I decided to withhold yet another reference to peace and love.
