The next stop in my search for Sir Francis Drake's England was the ancient naval nerve center of Portsmouth. This was where Drake returned, a hero yet again, after sacking the previously impregnable Spanish stronghold of Cartegena. But more importantly for my purposes, I was going there to visit an impressive old lady named Mary Rose.
