Helston - Cornish Riviera

The Hal an Tow celebration. Wikipedia photo

The flat and treeless expanse of the Lizard Peninsula (with its wonderful biking trails and tiny fishing villages) has at its centre the busy market town of Helston, famous for its ancient Furry Dance.

Each Floral Day on or near May 8th, a stately procession of top-hatted men and smartly dressed women winds its colorful way through streets and gardens. Other attractions include the garish Victorian Flambard's Theme Park, the Cornwall Aero Park with collections of historic aircraft and motor vehicles, and Poldark Mine and Wendron Forge, three miles north of town, which tells the story of Cornish tin mining.
