Simpsons-in-the-Strand

Simpsons-in-the-Strand 100 Strand, WC2
Tel: (0) 171 836 9112
Charing Cross

Opened in 1828 and mentioned in Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's Sherlock Holmes stories, "The Dying Detective" and "The Illustrious Client," Simpson's specializes in red meats, particularly sirloin of Scottish beef and saddle of Southdown lamb, attentive service and elegant surroundings. In addition to supper, breakfast is also served. The kippers, grilled and heaped on the plate, are an excellent value and the coffee is thick and aromatic. Simpson's, however, is quite expensive and NOT a suitable place for the "budgetarially challenged."
