Cary Grant (1904-1986) was born in Bristol and began his showbiz career at age 14 as part of a troupe of comedians that played the music halls in London. He came to America in 1920 with a show that ran on Broadway for 456 performances which led to his film career. He created a film persona with a polished smooth style and a delivery all his own. Once told by an interviewer that, "Everybody would like to be Cary Grant". Grant replied: "So would I."
